Faithful is our King

Thoughts from Psalm 72 in the Passion translation

I have read through this Psalm multiple times in the past week. While it is a beautifully written Psalm, I have repeatedly come up empty when trying to write something inspiring or encouraging to follow David’s words. Many indications suggest that David wrote this Psalm for his son Solomon. The royal Psalm is a prayer for the king.

This weekend at church, we sang about the beautiful and powerful name of Jesus. As we sang, I wept, and I thought about this Psalm. The words we were singing were a declaration to our King. Some of what we sang to our King is written below.

You didn't want heaven without us
So Jesus, You brought heaven down
My sin was great, Your love was greater
What could separate us now

What a wonderful Name it is
What a wonderful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King

What a wonderful Name it is
Nothing compares to this
What a wonderful Name it is
The Name of Jesus
What a wonderful Name it is
The Name of Jesus

Death could not hold You, the veil tore before You
You silenced the boast of sin and grave
The heavens are roaring the praise of Your glory
For You are raised to life again

You have no rival, You have no equal
Now and forever, God You reign
Yours is the Kingdom, Yours is the glory
Yours is the Name, above all names

What a powerful Name it is
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King
What a powerful Name it is
Nothing can stand against
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus

Read through this passage of Scripture again as though it were referring to King Jesus - one who is greater than Solomon. Take a few minutes to sing your own praise to Him, the King of Kings, the Lords of Lords. The One who reigns over all the earth. The One who chose you for his glory.
